Exploration of biases in generative image models

Transferscope was originally developed as an internal team project. It is a wearable device that can transform our physical world through generative image AI. The device allows users to capture an object or concept with a simple click and seamlessly insert it into any scene, creating new and imaginative realities (aid-lab.hfg-gmuend.de/articles/transferscope/).

This idea was adapted for the teaching context as a P5js sketch to enable a playful approach to the potentials and challenges of generative image AI. One or more typological image series should be generated in teamwork. The text prompt and edge detection remain the same. The typology is influenced by the model used. The results are collected and discussed together on a Miro board.

The tool is used in our basic courses. On the one hand, the aim is to break up the ways of use that are strongly anchored by proprietary software applications, and on the other hand, to create an awareness of the fact that training data or fine-tuning of models significantly influences the output.
